# Quran 2:240 — Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow), Verse 240

## Arabic (Uthmani script)
وَٱلَّذِينَ يُتَوَفَّوۡنَ مِنكُمۡ وَيَذَرُونَ أَزۡوَٰجٗا وَصِيَّةٗ لِّأَزۡوَٰجِهِم مَّتَٰعًا إِلَى ٱلۡحَوۡلِ غَيۡرَ إِخۡرَاجٖۚ فَإِنۡ خَرَجۡنَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ فِي مَا فَعَلۡنَ فِيٓ أَنفُسِهِنَّ مِن مَّعۡرُوفٖۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٞ

وَالَّذِیْنَ یُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنْكُمْ وَیَذَرُوْنَ اَزْوَاجًا وَّصِیَّةً لِّاَزْوَاجِهِمْ مَّتَاعًا اِلَی الْحَوْلِ غَیْرَ اِخْرَاجٍ فَاِنْ خَرَجْنَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَیْكُمْ فِیْ مَا فَعَلْنَ فِیْۤ اَنْفُسِهِنَّ مِنْ مَّعْرُوْفٍ وَاللّٰهُ عَزِیْزٌ حَكِیْمٌ ۟

## Transliteration
Wallazeena yutawaf fawna minkum wa yazaroona azwaajanw wasiyyatal li azwaajihim mataa'an ilal hawlighaira ikhraaj; fa in kharajna falaa junaaha 'alaikum fee maa fa'alna feee anfusihinna min ma'roof; wallaahu Azeezun Hakeem

## English Translation (Abdullah Yusuf Ali)
> Those of you who die and leave widows should bequeath for their widows a year's maintenance and residence; but if they leave (The residence), there is no blame on you for what they do with themselves, provided it is reasonable. And Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.
