# Quran 3:156 — Surah Aali Imran (The Family of Imran), Verse 156

## Arabic (Uthmani script)
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَكُونُواْ كَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَقَالُواْ لِإِخۡوَٰنِهِمۡ إِذَا ضَرَبُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَوۡ كَانُواْ غُزّٗى لَّوۡ كَانُواْ عِندَنَا مَا مَاتُواْ وَمَا قُتِلُواْ لِيَجۡعَلَ ٱللَّهُ ذَٰلِكَ حَسۡرَةٗ فِي قُلُوبِهِمۡۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُحۡيِۦ وَيُمِيتُۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ بَصِيرٞ

یٰۤاَیُّهَا الَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْا لَا تَكُوْنُوْا كَالَّذِیْنَ كَفَرُوْا وَقَالُوْا لِاِخْوَانِهِمْ اِذَا ضَرَبُوْا فِی الْاَرْضِ اَوْ كَانُوْا غُزًّی لَّوْ كَانُوْا عِنْدَنَا مَا مَاتُوْا وَمَا قُتِلُوْا لِیَجْعَلَ اللّٰهُ ذٰلِكَ حَسْرَةً فِیْ قُلُوْبِهِمْ وَاللّٰهُ یُحْیٖ وَیُمِیْتُ وَاللّٰهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُوْنَ بَصِیْرٌ ۟

## Transliteration
Yaaa ayyuhul lazeena aamanoo laa takoonoo kallazeena kafaroo wa qaaloo li ikhwaanihim izaa daraboo fil ardi aw kaanoo ghuzzal law kaanoo 'indanaa maa maatoo wa maa qutiloo liyaj'alal laahu zaalika hasratan fee quloobihim; wallaahu yuhyee wa yumeet; wallaahu bimaa ta'maloona Baseer

## English Translation (Abdullah Yusuf Ali)
> O ye who believe! Be not like the Unbelievers, who say of their brethren, when they are travelling through the Earth or engaged in fighting: "If they had stayed with us, they would not have died, or been slain." This that Allah may make it a cause of sighs and regrets in their hearts. It is Allah that gives Life and Death, and Allah sees well all that ye do.
