# Quran 4:97 — Surah An-Nisa' (The Women), Verse 97

## Arabic (Uthmani script)
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ تَوَفَّىٰهُمُ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ ظَالِمِيٓ أَنفُسِهِمۡ قَالُواْ فِيمَ كُنتُمۡۖ قَالُواْ كُنَّا مُسۡتَضۡعَفِينَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ قَالُوٓاْ أَلَمۡ تَكُنۡ أَرۡضُ ٱللَّهِ وَٰسِعَةٗ فَتُهَاجِرُواْ فِيهَاۚ فَأُوْلَٰٓئِكَ مَأۡوَىٰهُمۡ جَهَنَّمُۖ وَسَآءَتۡ مَصِيرًا

اِنَّ الَّذِیْنَ تَوَفّٰىهُمُ الْمَلٰٓىِٕكَةُ ظَالِمِیْۤ اَنْفُسِهِمْ قَالُوْا فِیْمَ كُنْتُمْ قَالُوْا كُنَّا مُسْتَضْعَفِیْنَ فِی الْاَرْضِ قَالُوْۤا اَلَمْ تَكُنْ اَرْضُ اللّٰهِ وَاسِعَةً فَتُهَاجِرُوْا فِیْهَا فَاُولٰٓىِٕكَ مَاْوٰىهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَسَآءَتْ مَصِیْرًا ۟

## Transliteration
Innal lazeena tawaffaa humul malaaa'ikatu zaalimeee anfusihim qaaloo feema kuntum qaaloo kunnaa mustad'afeena fil-ard; qaalooo alam takun ardul laahi waasi'atan fatuhaajiroo feehaa; fa ulaaa'ika ma'waahum Jahannamu wa saaa'at maseeraa

## English Translation (Abdullah Yusuf Ali)
> When angels take the souls of those who die in sin against their souls, they say: "In what (plight) Were ye?" They reply: "Weak and oppressed Were we in the earth." They say: "Was not the earth of Allah spacious enough for you to move yourselves away (From evil)?" Such men will find their abode in Hell,- What an evil refuge! -
