# Quran 5:1 — Surah Al-Mai'dah (The Spread Table), Verse 1

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ أَوۡفُواْ بِٱلۡعُقُودِۚ أُحِلَّتۡ لَكُم بَهِيمَةُ ٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمِ إِلَّا مَا يُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡكُمۡ غَيۡرَ مُحِلِّي ٱلصَّيۡدِ وَأَنتُمۡ حُرُمٌۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَحۡكُمُ مَا يُرِيدُ

یٰۤاَیُّهَا الَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْۤا اَوْفُوْا بِالْعُقُوْدِ اُحِلَّتْ لَكُمْ بَهِیْمَةُ الْاَنْعَامِ اِلَّا مَا یُتْلٰی عَلَیْكُمْ غَیْرَ مُحِلِّی الصَّیْدِ وَاَنْتُمْ حُرُمٌ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ یَحْكُمُ مَا یُرِیْدُ ۟

## Transliteration
Yaaa aiyuhal lazeena aamanoo awfoo bil'uqood; uhillat lakum baheematul an'aami illaa maa yutlaa 'alaikum ghaira muhillis saidi wa antum hurum; innal laaha yahkumu maa yureed

## English Translation (Abdullah Yusuf Ali)
> O ye who believe! fulfil (all) obligations. Lawful unto you (for food) are all four-footed animals, with the exceptions named: But animals of the chase are forbidden while ye are in the sacred precincts or in pilgrim garb: for Allah doth command according to His will and plan.
