# Quran 5:82 — Surah Al-Mai'dah (The Spread Table), Verse 82

۞ لَتَجِدَنَّ أَشَدَّ ٱلنَّاسِ عَدَٰوَةٗ لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱلۡيَهُودَ وَٱلَّذِينَ أَشۡرَكُواْۖ وَلَتَجِدَنَّ أَقۡرَبَهُم مَّوَدَّةٗ لِّلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا نَصَٰرَىٰۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ مِنۡهُمۡ قِسِّيسِينَ وَرُهۡبَانٗا وَأَنَّهُمۡ لَا يَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ

لَتَجِدَنَّ اَشَدَّ النَّاسِ عَدَاوَةً لِّلَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوا الْیَهُوْدَ وَالَّذِیْنَ اَشْرَكُوْا وَلَتَجِدَنَّ اَقْرَبَهُمْ مَّوَدَّةً لِّلَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوا الَّذِیْنَ قَالُوْۤا اِنَّا نَصٰرٰی ذٰلِكَ بِاَنَّ مِنْهُمْ قِسِّیْسِیْنَ وَرُهْبَانًا وَّاَنَّهُمْ لَا یَسْتَكْبِرُوْنَ ۟

## Transliteration
Latajidanna ashad dan naasi 'adaawatal lillazeena aamanul Yahooda wallazeena ashrakoo wa latajidanna aqrabahum mawaddatal lil lazeena aamanul lazeena qaalooo innaa Nasaaraa; zaalika bi anna minhum qiseeseena wa ruhbaananw wa annahum laa yastakbiroon

## English Translation (Abdullah Yusuf Ali)
> Strongest among men in enmity to the believers wilt thou find the Jews and Pagans; and nearest among them in love to the believers wilt thou find those who say, "We are Christians": because amongst these are men devoted to learning and men who have renounced the world, and they are not arrogant.
