Dua for Remembrances of Allah SWT (Dhikr)

Forgive my past and future sins, what I have done openly and secretly, and what I have done in excess — and what You know better than I do. You are the First and the Last. There is no god except You.

Sahih Muslim — Hadith 771a· Narrated by Ali bin Abi Talib

Full Hadith

Ali ibn Abu Talib reported that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood up at night for prayer, he would say: “I turn my face in sincere devotion to the One who created the heavens and the earth, and I am not among those who associate partners with Him. Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. He has no partner. This is what I have been commanded, and I am among the believers. O Allah, You are the King. There is no god except You. You are my Lord, and I am Your servant. I have wronged myself and I admit my sins. Forgive all my sins, for no one forgives sins except You. Guide me to the best character, for no one guides to the best character except You. Turn me away from bad character, for no one can turn it away except You. Here I am, at Your service. All goodness is in Your hand, and evil cannot bring anyone closer to You. My existence and my ability are by You, and to You I return. You are blessed and exalted. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.” When he bowed, he would say: “O Allah, to You I bow. In You I believe, and to You I submit. My hearing, my sight, my mind, my bones, and my nerves humble themselves before You.” When he raised his head, he would say: “O Allah, our Lord, to You belongs all praise — praise that fills the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and whatever You will beyond that.” When he prostrated, he would say: “O Allah, to You I prostrate, in You I believe, and to You I submit. My face has prostrated to the One who created it, shaped it, and gave it hearing and sight. Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators.” Between the Tashahhud and the final salutation, he would say: “O Allah, forgive my past and future sins, what I have done openly and secretly, and what I have done in excess — and what You know better than I do. You are the First and the Last. There is no god except You.”

Allah! There is no god but He,-the Living, the Self-subsisting, Eternal. No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth? He knoweth what (appeareth to His creatures as) before or after or behind them. Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory).
