Surah Al-Baqarah (The Cow), Verse 247

وَقَالَ لَهُمْ نَبِیُّهُمْ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ قَدْ بَعَثَ لَكُمْ طَالُوْتَ مَلِكًا قَالُوْۤا اَنّٰی یَكُوْنُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ عَلَیْنَا وَنَحْنُ اَحَقُّ بِالْمُلْكِ مِنْهُ وَلَمْ یُؤْتَ سَعَةً مِّنَ الْمَالِ قَالَ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ اصْطَفٰىهُ عَلَیْكُمْ وَزَادَهٗ بَسْطَةً فِی الْعِلْمِ وَالْجِسْمِ وَاللّٰهُ یُؤْتِیْ مُلْكَهٗ مَنْ یَّشَآءُ وَاللّٰهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِیْمٌ ۟

Wa qaala lahum Nabiy yuhum innal laaha qad ba'asa lakum Taaloota malikaa; qaalooo annaa yakoonu lahul mulku 'alainaa wa nahnu ahaqqu bilmulki minhu wa lam yu'ta sa'atamminal maal; qaala innallaahas tafaahu 'alaikum wa zaadahoo bastatan fil'ilmi waljismi wallaahu yu'tee mulkahoo mai yashaaa'; wallaahu Waasi'un 'Aleem

Their Prophet said to them: "Allah hath appointed Talut as king over you." They said: "How can he exercise authority over us when we are better fitted than he to exercise authority, and he is not even gifted, with wealth in abundance?" He said: "Allah hath Chosen him above you, and hath gifted him abundantly with knowledge and bodily prowess: Allah Granteth His authority to whom He pleaseth. Allah careth for all, and He knoweth all things."
