Surah An-Nisa' (The Women), Verse 66

وَلَوْ اَنَّا كَتَبْنَا عَلَیْهِمْ اَنِ اقْتُلُوْۤا اَنْفُسَكُمْ اَوِ اخْرُجُوْا مِنْ دِیَارِكُمْ مَّا فَعَلُوْهُ اِلَّا قَلِیْلٌ مِّنْهُمْ وَلَوْ اَنَّهُمْ فَعَلُوْا مَا یُوْعَظُوْنَ بِهٖ لَكَانَ خَیْرًا لَّهُمْ وَاَشَدَّ تَثْبِیْتًا ۟

Wa law annaa katabnaa 'alaihim aniqtulooo anfusakum aw ikhrujoo min diyaarikum maa fa'aloohu illaa qaleelum minhum wa law annahum fa'aloo maa yoo'azoona bihee lakaana khairal lahum wa ashadda tasbeetaa

“If We had ordered them to sacrifice their lives or to leave their homes, very few of them would have done it: But if they had done what they were (actually) told, it would have been best for them, and would have gone farthest to strengthen their (faith);”
