The Clinging Clot of Blood

Surah 9619 Ayahsmeccan
Al-'Alaq19 verses

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ ۟

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful

1

اِقْرَاْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِیْ خَلَقَ ۟

Iqra bismi rab bikal lazee khalaq

Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created-

2

خَلَقَ الْاِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ ۟

Khalaqal insaana min 'alaq

Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood:

3

اِقْرَاْ وَرَبُّكَ الْاَكْرَمُ ۟

Iqra wa rab bukal akram

Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,-

4

الَّذِیْ عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ ۟

Al lazee 'allama bil qalam

He Who taught (the use of) the pen,-

5

عَلَّمَ الْاِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ یَعْلَمْ ۟

Al lamal insaana ma lam y'alam

Taught man that which he knew not.

6

كَلَّاۤ اِنَّ الْاِنْسَانَ لَیَطْغٰۤی ۟

Kallaa innal insaana layatghaa

Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds,

7

اَنْ رَّاٰهُ اسْتَغْنٰی ۟

Ar-ra aahus taghnaa

In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient.

8

اِنَّ اِلٰی رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعٰی ۟

Innna ilaa rabbikar ruj'aa

Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all).

9

اَرَءَیْتَ الَّذِیْ یَنْهٰی ۟

Ara-aital lazee yanhaa

Seest thou one who forbids-

10

عَبْدًا اِذَا صَلّٰی ۟

Abdan iza sallaa

A votary when he (turns) to pray?

11

اَرَءَیْتَ اِنْ كَانَ عَلَی الْهُدٰۤی ۟

Ara-aita in kana 'alal hudaa

Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?-

12

اَوْ اَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوٰی ۟

Au amara bit taqwaa

Or enjoins Righteousness?

13

اَرَءَیْتَ اِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰی ۟

Ara-aita in kaz zaba wa ta walla

Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away?

14

اَلَمْ یَعْلَمْ بِاَنَّ اللّٰهَ یَرٰی ۟

Alam y'alam bi-an nal lahaa yaraa

Knoweth he not that Allah doth see?

15

كَلَّا لَىِٕنْ لَّمْ یَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِیَةِ ۟

Kalla la illam yantahi la nasfa'am bin nasiyah

Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,-

16

نَاصِیَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ ۟

Nasiyatin kazi batin khaatiah

A lying, sinful forelock!

17

فَلْیَدْعُ نَادِیَهٗ ۟

Fal yad'u naadiyah

Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades):

18

سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِیَةَ ۟

Sanad 'uz zabaaniyah

We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)!

19

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ ۟

Kalla; la tuti'hu wasjud waqtarib

Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)!
